Trust scoops two awards for outstanding leadership

Outstanding leadership at Dudley and Walsall Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust was celebrated at an awards ceremony in Birmingham last week (Wednesday 10th December).

The Trust picked up two of the nine awards on offer at the Regional Finals of the prestigious NHS Leadership Recognition Awards, which celebrates the most inspirational leaders in the NHS.

Tracy Cross, who won Patient Champion of the Year, and Paul Singh, who won Leader of Inclusivity of the Year, were presented with their awards by Dr Christian Jessen, TV doctor and host of Embarrassing Bodies, at a ceremony at Birmingham Town Hall.

Judges praised Tracy Cross, Service Experience & Engagement Coordinator, for her work coordinating the Trust’s Experts by Experience – former and current patients who draw on their own experiences as service users – and empowering them to help shape mental health services.

Welcoming the award, Tracy said: “Giving patients a voice is at the heart of everything we do, and I’m so pleased that this award recognises the great work that our Experts by Experience do to improve the experience of mental health services for patients.”

Paul Singh, Equality and Diversity Lead, was praised for his commitment to promoting equality and ensuring service users from all backgrounds are treated fairly and with dignity and respect.

Paul Singh said: “I was truly humbled and immensely proud to have won the award, which recognises the work we’ve done to ensure we provide a personal, fair and diverse service for all. It was a fantastic evening and a pleasure of being surrounded by so many Ambassadors of the Future.”

As regional winners, Tracy and Paul will now go through to the national finals in London next year.

Gary Graham, Chief Executive of Dudley and Walsall Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust, said: “I am delighted by this achievement, which reflects the positive values of our organisation. I  would like to congratulate Tracy and Paul on their awards, which are testament to their hard work, commitment and dedication to improving mental health services in our local communities.”
