Therapy and Liaison Community Service

The Therapy and Liaison Community Service (TALCS) works with people over the age of 65 who are currently experiencing mental health problems and are within secondary mental health services. The service also works with people of any age with a diagnosis of dementia.  The service provides time-limited therapeutic interventions on a 1:1 and group basis.

The service works with community, third sector and charitable agencies within the Walsall area to co-facilitate therapeutic groups. They also provide training and support to staff within these areas to enable older adults to remain within the community.

Who can refer to the service?

Referrals will be received from the memory assessment service for dementia-related interventions, and from secondary care for mental health or dementia-related interventions.

Requests from the voluntary or third sector will be accepted with regard to non-patient specific training requests (e.g. training on cognitive stimulation therapy).

For Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) only following diagnosis of dementia – GPs and the Personal Assistants: Dementia can refer directly to the service.

Referrals are made via TALCS referral forms either for dementia or functional pathway, and should be emailed to
