Vacancies: Associate Lay Manager X 5 – 28/10/13

We are looking to recruit 5 highly motivated individuals with an interest in Mental Health to join our Associate Lay Manager (ALM) team in the Trust.

ALMs come from all walks of life and are appointed and trained by the Trust to undertake specific duties as defined by the Mental Health Act (MHA).

ALMs are volunteers who have statutory powers and responsibilities to protect the rights of detained service users and to hear appeals against and renewal of sections under the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended 2007).

In order to carry out these roles, ALMs attend panel hearings as required (generally 4 times per year) and receive remuneration and travel expenses for each session they attend.

One of our current ALMs says:

“Did you know that by serving on a Mental Health Appeal panel you can ensure that a patient's rights are fully explored and upheld? You will find the work challenging, interesting and rewarding.  I can guarantee you will never be bored and never stop learning.  The backup from administration staff is excellent, and regular meetings are held to keep everyone connected and to have a chance to air views and suggest improvements.  Regular training is provided to help to keep abreast of legislation.”

If you are interested in mental health, enjoy working as part of a small team, are always willing to learn and can work flexibly, please follow the links for the application form, the role description and the person specification below.

If you need more information regarding this role please contact the Mental Health Act Manager on 01384 321 391.
