Staff Award Winners Celebrate – 14/10/11

Motivation, dedication, creativity and going that extra mile were just some of the themes celebrated at Dudley and Walsall Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust’s annual Staff Awards ceremony.

More than 150 people attended the event at The Venue, Dudley on Wednesday 28th September including nominees, colleagues, service users, friends and family.

On the day there were seven accolades up for grabs including awards for Leadership, Innovation and Partnership working. The awards recognise the hard work and commitment of staff who go the extra mile when caring for service users.

Over 100 nominations were put forward including 30 nominations from service users for the Patient Experience Award – launched this year to give service users the chance to say thank you to staff who made a positive impact on their lives.

Pam Bevan and Pam Perks, Community Mental Health Team, took home the Patient Experience Award for their excellent work around medicines management for service users.

Glyn Shaw, Chairman, commented:

“The standard of nominations this year was particularly high especially in the Patient Experience category. It was a difficult process choosing the winners as all those nominated for an award are winners in their own right. Thank you to all those who took the time to nominate and recognise their hard work and commitment."

Glyn also went on to present the Chairman’s Award to Eileen O’Neill and Dennis Madurai who were recognised for their work in developing a support group for carers of those with the specific form of dementia, Front-Temporal Dementia.

Also among the winners were The Shared Care Team who scooped the Everybody Counts Award. Sarah Keeling, Team Manager, said:

“Winning this award is recognition not only for the team but also for our client group and will inspire us to move our service forward and evolve.”

Jayne Yarrington, winner of the Unsung Hero award, was thrilled by the award.

“It was touching to be nominated, let alone win. It was a fantastic event and great to be able to take time out to celebrate”.

Vikki Harris, Team Manager of Walsall Vocational Services, who alongside Dudley Step Up, was very proud to pick up the Innovation Award.

“The day was a wonderful way to celebrate our excellent staff and services.”

Gary Graham, Chief Executive, who presented staff with their awards, said:

“It is vital the Trust showcases the excellent work of individuals and teams especially during these challenging times. The Recognising Success ceremony is an opportunity to acknowledge and thank those nominated for their outstanding contribution to the delivery of high quality care for service users. The event was a great success and it was excellent to see such a great turnout.”
