Local people score mental health trust highly in community and inpatient surveys

Dudley and Walsall Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust has scored highly in two surveys exploring experiences of mental health care, based on the views of local people.

The Trust scored among the top 20% of trusts in the country for service users rating their experience as ‘good or very good’ in the Care Quality Commission (CQC) Community Mental Health Survey. In the same survey, 75% of respondents reported that they felt that they were treated with dignity and respect, and nine out of ten reported that they felt their health or social care worker listened to them carefully.

Results from the National Mental Health Inpatient Survey were also positive. The Trust scored significantly higher than the national average for patients feeling welcome on the ward, hospital cleanliness, and being listened to by psychiatrists and nurses.

Significant improvements from last year’s survey were made in areas including access to out-of-hours phone contact, availability of activities on the ward, and quality of hospital food.

Previously, the competition was run by Walsall Service User Empowerment (SUE). This was the first year the competition was run by the Trust, which allowed residents from across both Dudley and Walsall boroughs to take part.

This year, people were invited to enter artwork into one of two categories: ‘What makes me happy’ and ‘What I am hopeful for’. We received many excellent entries, and our judges had to make some very difficult decisions in choosing the shortlist and winners.
