Event held to Raise Awareness of Substance Misuse – 08/06/09

People who are experiencing drug or alcohol related difficulties can learn more about the support available to them at an event in Walsall.

Dudley and Walsall Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (DWMHPT) has organised an event in the town centre to coincide with national Tackling Drugs Changing Lives Week, which runs from June 8 to 12.

Members of the Trust’s substance misuse service will be in the Town Square, outside Tesco, on Friday (Jun 12) between 11am and 4pm to promote their service and raise awareness about drug and alcohol related problems.

Colette Naughton, Clinical Lead for Walsall’s substance misuse service, said: “Our service provides a wide range of community based treatments and interventions for Walsall residents who are experiencing difficulties related to their use of drugs and/or alcohol.”

“We have joined together with our partners who work within the substance misuse field to organise this event to promote our service and highlight issues surrounding drug and/or alcohol dependency.”

Other organisations involved in Friday’s event include drug and alcohol charity Addaction, Walsall service user group Hi’s and Lows, Poppies, a group which offers support to families affected by drug or alcohol misuse, and young persons treatment service T3.
