Carers Rewarded for their Commitment – 20/05/09

A special social event is set to be held in Walsall to reward the carers of people with mental health problems for their hard work throughout the year.

Dudley and Walsall Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (DWMHPT) has organised its annual Celebrating Carers evening as part of national Carers Week, which runs from June 8 to June 14.

The free event, which is set to take place on June 11, will see mental health carers in Walsall come together for an evening of fun, games, music and food in recognition of their commitment to providing unpaid care to someone they know.

Irene Fair, from the Trust’s Carer Support Service, said: “Carers Week is designed to highlight and celebrate the incredible contribution that carers make, which is why we have organised the social evening.

“Mental health carers work very hard throughout the year and we wanted to hold an event where they could come together and have some fun.

“Celebrating Carers has been very popular in previous years and we are hoping that this year will be no different.”

The Celebrating Carers evening is set to take place at the Broadway North Resource Centre, in Broadway North, between 4pm and 8pm on June 11.

Carers who would like to find out more information about the event or would like to register for a free ticket can contact the Carers Support Service on 0121 526 5387.

The Trust’s Carers Support Service will also have a stall at a free event organised by Age Concern which is due to be held at The Crossing at St Paul’s in Walsall town centre on June 10
