Meditation is one effective way to practise being 'mindful'. Learning to meditate and be mindful can help us in many ways. It enables us to observe how our minds work so that we may alter habitual ways of thinking which can affect our everyday moods and behaviours. It is important to become aware of how you think so that you can adjust your thinking patterns if they are unhelpful in your life.

Mindfulness meditation can also help  us to become more aware of emotions, thoughts and bodily sensations, so that – instead of being overwhelmed by them – we are better able to manage them. This increases our ability to focus and choose where we want to place our attention, enabling us to live in the present moment, instead of being distracted by dwelling on the past or worrying about the future.

Practising mindfulness meditation can help us to learn how to use the experience of the present moment – which is always available to us – to ground us if we need it to. This is very important in making the most of life and our experiences, as well as calming ourselves in times of stress.
