Success in National Accreditation Programme

Following a rigorous assessment process, Dudley and Walsall Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust’s Memory Assessment Service in Walsall has again received national accreditation from the Memory Services National Accreditation Programme.

The Memory Assessment Service offers assessment, diagnosis and treatment to patients who have suspected or diagnosed memory problems.

The Memory Services National Accreditation Programme is an initiative of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. They work with services to assure and improve the quality of memory services for people with memory problems or dementia and their carers.

As part of the assessment feedback is gathered from both staff and patients on the quality of the service. Assessors were particularly impressed with how well the service works with patients and carers, and how responsive they are to their needs. They also noted high staff motivation and observed that staff are keen to share their knowledge and experience to enhance the service.

Other areas such as environmental audits, service planning, policies and partnership working were also reviewed as part of the assessment.

Nick Stephens, Head of Older Adult Services at Dudley and Walsall Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust commented: “We are delighted to have again received formal accreditation for our Memory Assessment Service in Walsall. It’s vital that individuals and their families have access to early assessment, diagnosis regarding their memory and receive timely support in living well with Dementia.”
