DWMH going smokefree

Dudley and Walsall Mental Health going smokefree

Dudley and Walsall Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (DWMH) is proud to be going smokefree from Sunday 1 September 2019.

This important change means that patients, visitors and staff will not be able to smoke on Trust premises from this date onwards.

Smoking is the leading cause of preventable illness and premature death in England, with about half of all life-long smokers dying prematurely, losing on average around 10 years of life.

Mark Axcell, Chief Executive of the Trust, said: “As an NHS Trust we are very clear that this is the right thing to do as we want nothing more than to protect the health and wellbeing of our patients, visitors and staff.”

The Trust will be replacing all smoking shelters with vaping huts for those who use e-cigarettes or vapes.

Trusts which have already gone smoke-free are reporting a positive response from patients, visitors and staff as well as demonstrating a reduction in staff sickness.
