‘Curing Alzheimer’s’

From 2013 – 2014, the Trust took part in a study which involved participants from our Memory Assessment Service in Walsall. The Principal Investigator (PI) for the study was Dr Usman Khalid.

The study, named GREAT (Goal-oriented cognitive rehabilitation in early-stage dementia: multi-centre, single-blind randomised controlled trial) will be featured in a BBC Horizon documentary called ‘Curing Alzheimer’s’ which will air tonight (11 May) at 8pm here. The documentary will be talking specifically about ‘GREAT’ and will include interviews with therapists and the Chief Investigator, Professor Jan Oyebode, who was instrumental in getting the study adopted at the Trust.

We’d like to give special thanks to all those involved in the study including Dr Khalid, Stuart McKay and everyone at the Memory Assessment Service. If you are interested in taking part in National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) portfolio studies, either as a PI or co-investigator, please contact Samah.Riaz@dwmh.nhs.uk.
