Blue Peter presenter opens new clinics

Wolverhampton born Blue Peter presenter, Radzi Chinyanganya, joined staff and patients on 31 October to celebrate the launch of new Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) clinics at Dudley and Walsall Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in Walsall.

As part of their annual open door event, health professionals, GPs, families and members of the public were invited to find out more about the range of mental health services available to young people.

Staff were on hand throughout the day to talk about treatments on offer and how young people can get the vital support they need. The event also saw the launch of the iCAMHS, a specialist service that provides intensive support to young people in crisis with the aim of avoiding hospital admission.

Radzi Chinyanganya, said: “My Mum has worked in children’s and adolescent mental health services for around 40 years so this was very close to my heart. Life means we’re not always born with an equal footing so CAMHS units, like Canalside, help to make life more equal for many children.”

“The open door event was an excellent way to let families know about the services available to them and I am extremely pleased to have been invited along to open the new ADHD and ASD clinics at the site.”

Jackie Alexander, CAMHS Pan Trust Manager, said: “We were excited to open our brand new ADHD and ASD clinics as part of the event in Walsall and would like to thank Radzi for his support on the day. The clinics will have a major impact on children waiting to be assessed for ADHD and ASD and it is expected that it will be beneficial for young people in the borough and will help them to handle their conditions in a healthy and sustainable way.”

The event was very well attended and over £100 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support.
